Kai: A Scent so Great Even Oprah Loves It

You read that right; even the queen bee herself, Oprah Winfrey, loves Kai! If you are one of the few who don't peruse her annual "Favorite Things", this will be a perfect introduction to the best scent you have yet to smell. Most women fall head over heels after the first inhale of this intoxicating blend of gardenia and tropical white flowers. Other famous devotees of Kai include both Jennifers--Aniston and Garner--, Naomi Watts, Reese Witherspoon, Charlize Theron, and Julia Roberts. I don't know about you, but if some of the most beautiful women in the world--who have access to any product they could want to try--all say a product is nice, well then I want in on that!

So let us talk about what makes Kai such an amazing product and company. Well for starters the brand is completely paraben, sulfate, phthalate, phosphate, microbead, and cruelty free. They also have a deodorant that works like a dream and is completely aluminum free--something that has caused concern over its buildup of possible toxicity within the body. All the packaging for every Kai product is made from recyclable materials. It is refreshing to see a brand care about its clientele enough to protect them from things that are not only harmful to them, but also to the environment. You would not believe how many mainstream perfume brands cannot boast the same. In fact, if you do the research, a lot of perfumes on the market are packed with fillers and alcohol that cheapen the overall product.

So how did a brand that is both eco-conscience and consumer friendly get its start? Like most great things it started with a vacation. The founder of the company, Gaye Straza, used to spend her holidays in the tropics where she fell in love with the exotic white flowers she found there. She also had an aversion to most perfumes--anyone who wears perfume regularly will know that scents and body chemistry can sometimes compete with each other. Instead of giving up on finding the perfect scent, she decided to make her own. Straza worked with a small boutique parfumerie to make what would eventually be the Kai fragrance we know today. The first product Kai ever brought out was its signature body oil--a small vial with a roll on applicator that is packed full of essential oils. It is the perfect addition to any on the go womans' handbag. According to the company's main website, the first time Straza wore the scent out, she was stopped by a beauty editor who wanted to know where the fragrance was made and how she could get her hands on some. It took off from there, eventually leading to an expansion of the brand into other products besides the perfume oil. If that doesn't sound like a movie magic fairytale-esq experience, than I don't know what does.

Scent is a very personal experiences, which is why it always surprises me how diverse Kai devotees are--I even know some men who enjoy wearing the scent. You can attribute the widespread love of the brand to how interesting the fragrance is. I wish technology was advanced enough to have a scratch and sniff option, but alas you will have to do with my sad attempt at explaining what it smells like. Kai is a perfect blend of tropical white flowers--including gardenia, plumeria, and jasmine--that evokes summer days spent exploring tropical beaches. The perfume should smell incredibly sweet due to the floral notes--especially the main note of gardenia--but it is tempered by green notes that are both calming and softening. It is a fresh fragrance without smelling soapy or powdery--this is not your grandmothers old-school scent. The longevity of the fragrance from all the Kai products is incredible. You can put it on early in the morning after your shower and I guarantee you will still be smelling it at the end of the day.

I suggest trying at least one of the products Kai has to offer. In our shop--online and within our main location--we are proud to carry such a unique, stunning fragrance. Grab one of the products today and I promise you will not be disappointed!
